RTE Act, 2009 (Section 12(1)(c))

Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009 (Section 12(1)(c)), private schools recognised by the state must reserve 25 % of seats in Class 1 for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged groups. These children are eligible for free education (tuition fees) in private schools, with the cost reimbursed by the state government.

Who is Eligible?

A child is generally eligible if:

The child is seeking Class 1 admission for the academic year 2026-27.
The child lives in Bihar and is a state resident.
The child meets the age criteria (usually 6 years as on 1 April 2026; e.g., born between 2 April 2018 and 1 April 2020).

Categories that can apply:

Disadvantaged groups (SC, ST, OBC, EBC, minority, transgender) with annual family income up to ₹1 lakh.
Weaker section children of any community with annual family income less than ₹2 lakh.
Orphan children can apply (income certificate may not be required).

How to Apply (Step-by-Step)

Visit the Official Portal

Go to the Gyandeep-RTE Bihar portal: https://gyandeep-rte.bihar.gov.in/ — the official application platform.

Register the Child

Provide a mobile number of parent or guardian. Complete the online registration form with basic details.

Fill the Application Form

Select the child’s preferred schools (you may choose several). Ensure accuracy, especially in age, address, and category details.

Upload Mandatory Documents

Upload clear, scanned copies as per requirements.

Submit Before the Deadline

The application must be submitted before last date.

Required Documents

Parents/guardians must upload the following (if available at the time of application):

1. Birth Certificate of the child (proof of age).

2. Certificate (if applying under SC/ST/OBC/EBC/minority).

3. Income Certificate (to prove eligibility under weaker/disadvantaged group).

4. Residence/Domicile Certificate (state residency).

5. Aadhaar Card

6. Mobile number of parent/guardian

7. Child’s passport-size photograph (recent colour photo).
